Slide 2-43
Pavlovian conditioning occurs when a correlation between a stimulus and a reinforcer is enforced. Additionally discriminative control occurs when a correlation between a stimulus and a reinforcer is enforced while a response reinforcer relationship is enforced.
Slide 2-44
Each of several birds were consecutively exposed to the following procedures. 1. clock without response requirement (Clocked Fixed Time, CFT). 2. single stimulus with a response requirement (Single Stimulus Fixed Interval, SSFI); 3. Clocked Fixed Interval (CFI); and 4. Randomly arranged clocks which were different on every trial and which required a response at the end (Random Clocked Fixed Interval, RCFI). These procedures showed that with a response dependency an interfood clock suppressed behavior below what would occur under a single stimulus or under a random stimulus condition but did not reduce early responding to zero.

Slide 2-46
The procdure illustrated in slides 45 and 46 showed that an interfood clock produced behavior above what would occur under a Pavlovian contingency without an added clock. Each of several birds were exposed to 1. a Single Stimulus Fixed Time schedule (SSFT) and then a Clocked Fixed Time (CFT) then returned to baseline (SSFT) or 2. started with a Clocked Fixed Time (CFT) and then switched to a Single Stimulus Fixed Time (SSFT).
Slide 2-47
In sum, an interfood clock maintains a characteristicly accelerating behavior. The procedure could be said to suppress responding or facilitate responding depending on the distribution maintained by the comparison procedure in the absence of temporally correlated stimuli.
