Slide 5-2

The first question, of course, is why? Why worry about paradigmatic development? Our answer is that the organizing principles are the factors which allow us to predict, explain, and discover.

The broader and the more coherent, and the more valid the organizing principles; the better we can predict, explain, and discover.

Slide 5-3

We want a set of rules or categories and relationships which substantially reduces the complexity in the Universe. In this slide, knowledge is the structure built from color, shape, and size and their relationship. It accounts for the variance in the widely disparate elements on the left. We have reduced complexity as well as enabling anyone to specify the expected relationships between elements. When we can do that, then we understand the fundamental dimensions of nature (its axis labels).
